The Barnum family has consistently been one of Allegheny’s top installers since the early 2000s when we started making hardwood flooring.

Gary & his father, Al Barnum, met Dennis & Jane Hickman at an NWFA expo and quickly realized a similar business philosophy. Quality work, honesty, and family were all very important to them both. They liked our rift and quarter-sawn white oak flooring. Barnums knew to make the greatest floors on earth, they needed to use the best flooring from the best source. That was with AMHF. Business remained strong over the years, and the friendship grew along with it.

Denny & Gary have gone on fishing trips together and always get together at the NWFA expos for dinner and to talk business, Pat & Kathy keep all the orders in line behind the scenes, and the next generation, Amberle, Austin, Jake & Jessica, (all were awarded top 40 under 40 in the Hardwood Floors Magazine in 2017) keep moving things forward.

Interview with Gary Barnum:

QUESTIONS:

How did you and my Denny first meet?

I met Jane at one of their 1st NWFA Conventions on the escalator. I was going down, she was going up, we both had beers in our hand, we cheered. She said come see us at our booth. My father & I stopped by later that day.

What makes Barnum unique in your flooring market?

Family owned, custom wood is our focus. Real wood floors only. In house employees , majority with us for over a decade, no subcontractors. NWFA Active member.

Do you remember the first floor that you did with AMHF?

My father’s home. We used a 3” clear Rift & Quarter White Oak Double Herringbone. WOWZA!

Barnum has been consistently one of our top customers over the last 10 years +. How do you move so much AMHF material?

Our passion for your Rift & Quarter products shine through the minute you walk into our showroom. Its out go to floor in almost any house, versatile, stable & beautiful!

What have been your top 3 reasons for working with AMHF over all these years?

Do you have a favorite floor that you did with our flooring?

It’s hard to pick just one. Herringbone pattern always turns out beautifully!

What flooring do you have in your personal home?

My current home is 4”-8” Long Length Live sawn White Oak. (All Allegheny Mountain hardwood!) We then edge crafted, face scraped & burnished it with hardwax oil.

What’s your favorite Denny Hickman Story?

Fishing in Elfin Cove, Alaska. Denny reeling in a Rock fish from 1,200’ deep, with a cigar in his mouth. I reeled one in too shortly after. We thought we ere going to die from reeling!

I have been purchasing my unfinished Hardwood Flooring from Allegheny Mountain for some time now. In my opinion no one does it better. Their quality is second to none. Their passion for what they do shows through every step of the way, from Jessica in Sales and Pat in the yard. I've purchased AMHF for several projects and I'm always blown away at how nice their floors look when I'm done. The milling quality of their flooring is superb. Their grading is spot-on; what you see in their photo gallery is what you get. Their live-sawn is a truly unique product in the hardwood flooring industry. Allegheny Mountain Hardwood Flooring is a superior company in every respect, from raw materials, process and finished product to service and communications We have found working with Allegheny on our Hudson Woods project to be very rewarding and we plan to continue working with them on many future projects.

As a developer and architect, I get to see many floors and the Allegheny Mountain product has the high-end quality and appearance to be installed anywhere. Our development company used 4” natural grade R&Q white oak on a recent renovation and I couldn’t be happier. Everyone that came into the house commented on the beauty of the wood flooring. We were impressed by how easy it was to install and how little waste we had. We sold the renovated house for the highest cost per-square-foot in the area, in just two weeks, and I’m sure we got that high number because of the hardwood floors that we installed.

I am a builder who constructed a high-end home on the coast of Maine for very discriminating homeowners. They, and their architect, wanted a custom blend of grades and lengths of quarter sawn white oak flooring with very specific characteristics. Allegheny provided us with a product that not only exceeded the owner's expectations but was at a reasonable cost. This was very impressive considering the additional work it took to understand the blend desired and to provide it. Jessica and her team at Allegheny Mountain have been amazing to work with. It was great to visit their mill and see the production for one of our episodes on Season 1 (of Restored by the Fords). They are knowledgeable, easy and extremely helpful! Our first project we used the white oak live sawn herringbone. We’ve also used their Rift & Quarter Sawn Beech. Every part of my experience with Allegheny Mountain's product and staff deserves the highest recommendation. We chose clear rift and quartered red oak and it is so stunning that I may throw away my rugs. The ordering process was a delight. The milling is excellent, true to grade, and again - stark raving gorgeous. I am so happy with the flooring and the company that next time I'm in PA I would want to visit their showroom. 5 stars is not enough.
