Getting Started
Create the Perfect Custom Hardwood Floor
We understand how difficult choosing a custom hardwood floor can be. At Allegheny Mountain Hardwood Flooring we want the very best for all our customers. A quality custom hardwood floor is an investment for your home. Our flooring can last over 100 years adding value to your home long into the future. We will help you find the floor that best reflects your lifestyle, your home’s design, works with your budget, and will add value to your home.
Choose Your Species
The right species is very important to consider in order to get the floor that works best for your home and desired look.
- White Oak & Red Oak are the most popular for overall versatility, hardness and stability.
- R&Q Beech is a unique and beautiful floor.
- Hickory is the hardest domestic specie but is not very stable.
- Cherry & Walnut have true elegance but are slightly softer hardwood floors.
Learn more about each species on our species page.
Design Tip
White Oak is very popular right now, but red oak is a great alternative for some cost savings. R&Q Red Oak is a very beautiful floor and if you’re using a dark stain many people can’t tell the difference between the red or white oak.
Design Tip
Clear & Select grade presents a formal, more traditional look to the floor. Natural grade is growing in popularity in all styles of homes, from very modern to rustic. The natural tree characteristics show the unique beauty only created by Mother Nature.
Choose Your Cut
We offer Rift & Quarter Sawn, Live Sawn and Plain Sawn cutting options.
We have become well known in the hardwood flooring industry for the exceptional quality of our R&Q flooring.
Our professional reputation is based on the consistent quality and our attention to detail, offering flooring with tighter grading specification than the industry requires.
Design Tip
The cut is important as it affects the appearance of the wood, but even more importantly, it affects how the wood expands and contracts with relative humidity and temperature. Rift and quarter Sawn is a more dimensionally stable option than plain sawn.
Design Tip
Different widths, lengths, and patterns can be used in various parts of the house to help with the budget. For example, many people will use the more expensive wide planks and long lengths on the main areas of the home. To save money you can use the same floor, but in a narrower width and shorter lengths in the bedrooms and closets.
Solid or Engineered?
We offer almost everything in engineered as we do in solid.
Our custom drying and specialty cuts (rift & quarter sawn and live sawn) allow us to confidently sell solid wide plank floors throughout the country and in homes with radiant heat.
Our engineered is recommended for below grade installation and for glue down floors above concrete. However, due to advancements in adhesives, many installers are gluing down solid wood flooring on concrete.
Design Tip
Many customers take advantage of the ability to use the same wood throughout their whole house. They order both solid and engineered flooring to keep the wood consistent and install the solid flooring above grade and the engineered flooring in their below-grade basements.
Design Tip
Adding a border or parquet in an entry way or office is a great way to really make your home unique. Our textured floors are a great alternative to very expensive reclaimed flooring.
Site Finish or Pre-Finish?
We strongly believe a site finished floor is far superior than a pre-finish. The craftsmanship, customization, return on investment, and overall beauty in a site finish is far superior than a pre-finish.
However, we understand in certain situations that a pre-finish floor is necessary and can provide custom pre-finish options.
Design Tip
We are connected to skilled NWFA-certified installers across the country. We can help you find someone to make your floor truly beautiful. Don’t settle for a cheap finish. Your floor is an investment in your home. The return on your investment of a site-finished floor outweighs a cheap or mid-level finish product.
