We knew this project was special when the President of Integrity Floors, Corey Cathcart, and his team talked to us about their upcoming flooring project in a performing arts center in Tampa, FL. We were not surprised to hear they were awarded 2022 Floor of the Year for this project!
For better understanding, here is a little history on the National Wood Flooring Association’s (NWFA) Wood Floor of the Year (WFOY) awards that were developed in 1990 to encourage and recognize innovative craftsmanship and design in wood flooring installations.
The project was 6000 SF, and the crowd stopper is the 28-foot star medallion.
They used our rift & quarter-sawn white oak and walnut to create the dynamic medallion with natural contrast in the color and grain.
“The middle medallion is the physical center of the building, and it matches up to details on the ceiling, and it is actually the reverse of the ten-sided star. We had to have all of those points intersect so that the inside medallion would match up,” explains Cathcart. “It was laid out using two pentagrams. Each pentagram has five sides, and we just mirror-imaged that to get 10.”
Elsewhere on the project, on-site bent wood and brass were used at the terrazzo step. Brass outlines the wood floor at the floor’s perimeter at each step and doorway. Using rift white oak and walnut in the star, the natural colors of the wood created contrast and dimension to the inlay.

Corey, along with other team members, John and Mike, have been to our mill multiple times to learn about the manufacturing process and the quality of our wood floors. They truly care about using quality products sourced from US mills.
We are very proud of them with this incredible project and well deserved award. They have another unique project in the works right now. Let’s see if they can go back to back years as winners! It wouldn’t surprise me if they did.

Thank you for passing along your love of the forest to your kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. This is evident in every floor that we install and the friendship that has come with our business. Sometime I hope to walk in the woods and see some of the forest you have cared for and see the roots of your family.
